The Middle

Everyone loves a beginning. The new job, the new plan, the fresh notebook. Beginnings come with energy built in.

Everyone loves an ending too. The launch, the medal, the before-and-after photo. Endings get the applause.

But life is mostly the middle.

The middle is Tuesday. It is the fourth week of the plan when nobody has noticed your progress yet, including you. It is the chapter where the excitement has worn off and the results have not shown up, and the only thing left is the work itself.

This is where most people quietly walk away. Not because they failed. Because the middle gives you nothing to feel. No fireworks, no witnesses, no proof it is working.

Here is what I have learned: the middle is not the obstacle between you and the result. The middle is the result, being built one unremarkable day at a time. Every person you admire spent years in a middle nobody saw.

So if you are in one right now, do not rush to escape it. Do not mistake the quiet for failure. The quiet is what building sounds like.

Stay for the middle. The ending is made of it.
