Look Up, Then Take the Step

Most of us move through our days with our eyes on the finish line. It is natural. The finish line is where the goal lives.

But the finish line does not move you an inch. Only the next step does.

I have come to believe that progress is mostly a habit of looking up and then looking down. Look up so you remember where you are headed and why it matters. Then look down and place your foot where the ground is right in front of you.

Do those two things in that order and the distance gets shorter. Skip the first and you walk without direction. Skip the second and you stand still admiring the view.

Whatever you are building right now, give it a small moment of looking up today. Name the reason in one sentence.

Then pick the one action you can finish before dinner. Do that one.

The distance will still be there tomorrow. So will you, a step closer.

What is the next step you have been avoiding?
