Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through. – Ira Glass
Patience and Hard Work are the tools of success. Akio Morita who became Sony’s Chairman, was expected to take over the family business of brewing sake, a Japensese drink. However, Morita’s interest lay in electronics which is where he went. He created one of the world’s biggest companies in partnership with another person. Another example is Michael Dell who had a passion for selling computers and competing with IBM led to the formation of Dell corporation while he was only 19. Alyque Padamsee, the former chairman of Lintas has written a book called “The Double life”. In that he describes how he used to do advertisements for money which used to fund his real passion which was theatre. He had to sacrifice a lot of social life for this “Double life” but this story clearly shows that Patience/Hard Work will never betray you just make sure you are smart about it.
